Delivering Safer Sustainable Solutions for Department of Transport (DoT)

29.07.2020

We have continued our focus on delivering safer sustainable solutions to the Department of Transport with the recent completion of a low fume crumb rubber asphalt wearing course trial on the Murray Valley Highway at Lake Boga. Over 160 tonnes of basecourse asphalt containing a mix of recycled asphalt and recycled glass was placed first in patches, recycling in excess of 50,000 glass bottles. The patches were followed by 450 tonnes of an innovative crumb rubber asphalt wearing course, containing the equivalent of 900 recycled car tyres. The addition of crumb rubber will enhance the performance of the wearing course asphalt through improved deformation and crack resistance, and fatigue life whilst diverting old tyres from the community waste stream.

This builds on the recent successful innovative crumb rubber, glass and recycled asphalt mix trial at McCrae Street, in the heart of Bendigo.
